Despite the rapid technological evolution in the shipping industry, shipping incidens continue to occur. Not only bad weather conditions, the crowds on the seas and canals, but also human error are often to blame. An important aspect in shipping incidents is often the limitation issue. Depending on the type of damage, an LLMC or CLC fund will have to be formed to limit shipowner's liability. Leeward assists shipowners and P&I Clubs in determining their legal position, negotiating claims settlement and conducting legal proceedings.

In addition to the practical difficulties involved in removal in shipwreck, salvage always leads to high running costs. In Belgium, the "Wreck Acts" allows for the creation of a fund, as in the case of the limitation of liability for material and physical damage or oil pollution. This wreckage funds means that the shipping company's liability vis-à-vis the authorities for costs of salvage and wreck removal is limited to a certain level.
